Working in the RO trade, we kept seeing the same thing. An ordinary sediment filter that leaves the factory for a few rupees carries a printed MRP of ₹559. Then a technician visits and charges another ₹350 just to fit it. The customer assumes that is the fair price — because nobody has shown them another way.
And it was never only about money. Too often, a local or old membrane gets fitted, nobody checks the TDS, and a family keeps drinking “RO water” for years that may not even be filtered properly. They lose money, and they still don’t get safe water.
We decided to stop complaining about it and start fixing it. That is how RO Wholesaler was born. Understand your water — TDS and pH at a glance
A TDS meter tells you in 10 seconds whether your RO is working properly. This is a general guide — send us your reading on WhatsApp and we’ll tell you what to do.
TDS (Total Dissolved Solids)
Salts and minerals dissolved in water, in mg/L (ppm)
- 0–50 Too low. Few minerals, flat taste. Adjust with a TDS controller.
- 50–150 Great range for RO output.
- 150–300 Good drinking water.
- 300–500 Acceptable, but close to the BIS limit of 500.
- 500+ Above the limit. RO is needed, or get your membrane checked.
pH (acidic or alkaline)
A scale of 0 to 14 — 7 is neutral
- Below 6.5 Acidic. pH can drop slightly after RO — a mineral or alkaline cartridge helps.
- 6.5–8.5 Drinkable range as per BIS IS 10500.
- Above 8.5 Too alkaline. Get your source water tested.
Reference: BIS IS 10500:2012 (drinking water) — TDS acceptable limit 500 mg/L, pH 6.5–8.5. The ranges above are general guidance, not a substitute for a lab or medical report.
