Why does a purifier need a carbon filter before the membrane?
Chlorine in tap water damages RO membranes. The carbon stage removes it first and also takes away bad taste and smell.
Carbon block (CTO) or GAC – which one?
CTO blocks are compressed and filter finer, better for chlorine and taste. GAC is loose granules with faster flow. Many setups use both.
